How to Use Muse AI With WhatsApp

Muse, Meta's personal AI agent, doesn't only live in its own app. Meta's announcement says you can use Muse "in the Muse app or directly in WhatsApp" — which makes WhatsApp one of the three official ways to reach the agent, alongside the iOS/Android app and muse.ai.

First: Muse in WhatsApp is not Meta AI

This trips everyone up, so let's clear it up:

• Meta AI is the assistant already inside WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Facebook, and meta.ai. It's free, and it chats — but it has no agentic virtual machine and doesn't do tasks for you.
• Muse is the new, separate product: a personal AI agent that runs on a dedicated secure VM, opens its own browser, fills out forms, and does work like booking travel or drafting emails — checking with you before sensitive actions.

One piece of context explains why Muse is the agent allowed inside WhatsApp at all: WhatsApp banned third-party general-purpose AI assistants from its Business API effective January 15, 2026. Muse is Meta's own, sanctioned agent — which is why it can sit next to Meta AI in the same app.

Getting access

What's confirmed at launch:

• Muse is rolling out in the US on iOS, Android, and muse.ai, with WhatsApp access per the same announcement. AI glasses support is coming later. See Muse availability for the current picture.
• AP reports Muse is for people 18 and over — that's press-reported, not yet confirmed on a Meta page.
• Step-by-step setup documentation for the WhatsApp path hasn't been published by Meta yet, so we won't invent exact taps and screens. If you don't see Muse in WhatsApp, the rollout simply may not have reached your account.

The first five things worth trying

Start with tasks that show off the agent without risking much. Every prompt below includes an approval line where money or messages are involved.

1. Plan a weekend trip.

Goal: Plan a Saturday-to-Sunday trip to Savannah in November for two people, under $900 total.
Requirements: Walkable hotel; one good dinner spot; one free activity.
Actions: Compare travel options and sketch a rough itinerary.
Approval: Do not purchase or book anything until I approve.
Output: A short plan I can react to.

2. Draft an email it can't send without you.

Goal: Draft a polite email asking my landlord to fix the heating.
Context: Third request this winter; keep the tone friendly but firm.
Actions: Draft the email and show it to me.
Approval: Do not send until I approve.
Output: The draft text only.

3. Turn a saved recipe into a grocery list. This is one of Meta's own examples: Muse can take an Instagram recipe reel and turn it into a grocery list. Ask it in plain language — "turn this recipe reel into a grocery list for four, no pork" — and it will use what it remembers about your household's restrictions.

4. Research a purchase before you're ready to buy.

Goal: Research three mid-range air purifiers for a large living room.
Requirements: Filter replacement cost, noise level, and independent review scores.
Actions: Compare prices across the sites you can reach.
Approval: Do not purchase until I approve.
Output: A comparison table with your pick.

5. Get help lowering a bill. Negotiating on your behalf is an official Muse capability, and "lowering a bill" is one of Meta's stated example outcomes. Have it draft the negotiation message first and approve before anything goes out.

What the WhatsApp version leaves out

Per CNBC reporting, the WhatsApp version of Muse lacks the feed and the ideas tool that the Muse app has; core conversation functionality is the same. Practically: in WhatsApp, you bring the task — you don't get the app's browse-and-discover surfaces for ideas. If you want those, use the Muse app or muse.ai, and start a task there.

Limits to keep in mind

• Async still applies. Meta says Muse keeps working after you close the app and comes back when something changes or when it needs approval — so expect follow-up messages in the chat while a task runs.
• It will sometimes fail. Reuters reports Meta's internal launch tests surfaced failure modes, and a Meta executive acknowledged Muse "sometimes it's going to make mistakes and sometimes it's going to fail to finish things." Keep approvals on; they're where mistakes get caught.
• US only for now. No international rollout has been announced.
• Don't paste secrets into chat. Access controls live in your connected-app settings — you choose which apps Muse connects to and how much access it gets, and you can disconnect a service whenever you want. See how Muse handles privacy.
